Ahead of the IPL 2023 season, Trevor Bayliss has been named Punjab Kings' new head coach.

Bayliss will replace Anil Kumble after the Mohali-based franchise decided not to extend the former Indian cricketer's contract due to the team's consistent sub-par performances under his leadership.

Under Kumble, Punjab Kings failed to make it to the IPL playoffs three times in a row, finishing 6th on all three occasions.

In addition to his BBL championship with the Sydney Sixers and two IPL championships with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and 2014, Bayliss will bring his experience of winning the 2019 ODI World Cup with England.

Bayliss was also the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2020 and 2021 IPL seasons.
