It was the 40-year-old ex-skipper MS Dhoni's midas touch that bailed out the sinking Chennai Super Kings who had lost 5 wickets by the 11th over against Kolkata Knight Riders in the first match of the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League.

Along with the skills of the now-captain Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni's experience rescued Chennai as they posted a decent 132 run target for the Shreyas Iyer-led side. MS Dhoni stunned the opposition with an unbeaten 50* off 38, scoring his first half-century since 2019 in IPL. Jadeja with his 26 off 28 supported Mahi who was the highest scorer for Chennai. He smashed a total of 7 fours and a six. They together added 47 runs in the last 3 overs.
