IND vs SA: Virat blames batters for the series defeat, selectors to take final call on Rahane & Pujara

As Team India lost the 3-match Test series 2-1 to South Africa despite winning the opening game, Virat Kohli openly criticised the batters for the poor show.

Except for the 1st Test, Indian batters failed to put up a show in the Test series. While the opening pair of Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul didn't give a good start to the team, Rahane and Pujara's constant failures put a lot of pressure on the lower order to deliver, which they didn't. That's the reason India had just 1 batter in the top 4 run-scorers of the series. 

One of the major reasons for the flop show was been Pujara and Rahane's dry run with the bat. While Rahane last scored a hundred in 2020, Pujara reached the 3-figure mark in Test cricket way back in 2019. Moreover, both players have had a drastic dip in their averages since 2019. While Rahane has gone from bad to worse, Pujara too had a similar dip.

Talking about the senior batting pair, Kohli may have left it to the selectors to take the final call but it is clear that Pujara and Rahane don't have many runs to keep themselves in the mix.
