Indian women's cricket team suffered a major setback before the start of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. Batter Sabbhineni Meghana and young all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar have tested positive for Covid-19 and will miss the flight to Birmingham.
India will lock horns with Australia in their first game of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Friday. The Women in Blue had their first practice session scheduled late on Tuesday.
An Indian Olympic Association official told PTI that a second player had tested positive for Covid-19 before departure and both players will remain in India and will miss the league stage
However, Meghana and Vastrakar can only join back the squad if they test negative as per the BCCI protocol. Interestingly, women's cricket is making its debut at the Commonwealth Games this year.
