In a bizarre incident, Bangladesh's experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim was given out for 'obstructing the field' during the Bangladesh vs New Zealand 2nd Test match which is being played at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.

At the time of the incident, Mushfiqur was batting at 35. Using his bat to block a ball from Kyle Jamieson, he palmed the ball away with his gloves as it bounced. It appeared as though the ball was heading away from the stumps innocuously, making his decision to step in even more questionable.

The umpires on the field got into a huddle and then referred the decision to the third umpire, who sealed his fate and gave him out for ‘obstructing the field’.

Mushfiqur's failed first attempt

In the same match, Mushfiqur had earlier attempted to handle the ball when the ball had bounced and gone behind the stumps. By then, he realized what he was going to do and managed to stop himself just in time. However, he made a mistake and lost his wicket this time.

Mushfiqur, not the first casualty!

With this bizarre incident, Mushfiqur became the first player from Bangladesh to be given out for 'handling the ball'. England's Leonard Hutton was the first cricket was given out for 'obstructing the field'.
