The Board of Control for Cricket in India President Roger Binny and Vice-President Rajeev Shukla arrived in Punjab's Amritsar before their departure to Lahore, Pakistan. Their visit comes in response to the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) invitation for the Asia Cup. Shukla and Binny will represent the BCCI in Pakistan and will travel to Lahore via the Wagah border.
This visit marks a significant development as it is the first time since the 2008 Mumbai terror attack that BCCI officials are visiting Pakistan. The persistent political tensions meant India decided against sending their team for this year's Asia Cup in Pakistan. Instead, Sri Lanka were chosen as co-hosts, with all matches involving the Indian cricket team taking place in the Island nation.
Prior to their journey to Pakistan via the Wagah border, Vice-President Shukla emphasized, "This two-day visit is purely from the point of view of cricket, nothing political."
Roger Binny echoed Shukla's sentiments, expressing his eagerness for the trip. He said, "I am looking forward to our visit since we've been to Colombo to see matches in Sri Lanka. We'll now see matches in Pakistan."
The BCCI officials' visit underscores cricket's role as a bridge between the two nations, despite their challenging political relationship. This development has generated significant interest and anticipation among cricket enthusiasts and officials on both sides of the border.
