Ollie Pope, the vice-captain of the England cricket team, has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the Ashes series after dislocating his right shoulder during the second Test at Lord's. The 25-year-old batsman will undergo surgery in the coming days.
Pope sustained the shoulder injury when he landed awkwardly during Australia's first innings in the second Test last week. The injury worsened during the second innings on the third day, following a misunderstanding where England were incorrectly informed that they couldn't use a substitute fielder.
"England and Surrey batter Ollie Pope has been ruled out of the rest of the LV Insurance men’s Ashes series after dislocating his right shoulder during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s last week. Scans in London on Monday revealed the full extent of the injury and he will miss the rest of the summer campaign and will require surgery," stated the England and Wales Cricket Board on Tuesday.
No replacement has been announced by England yet. The third Test of the series is scheduled to take place at Headingley, starting Thursday. Currently, England trails the five-match series 0-2.
