Sports Ministry recognises Yogasana as competitive sport

Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju along with Minister of AYUSH, Shripad Yesso Naik on Thursday formally recognised Yogasana as a competitive sport. The decision has been taken to encourage yoga and spread awareness about it among youngsters. Rijiju also announced the government's plans to introduce Yogasana in Khelo India and university games, and said it will also be pitched for national games. The sports discipline of Yogasana will likely have 51 medals in 4 events and 7 categories.
