Sonia should have become PM or chosen Pawar over Manmohan: union minister & BJP ally

Union Minister and NDA ally Ramdas Athawale has said that Sonia Gandhi should have become the prime minister when UPA came to power in 2004.

Saying that the argument surrounding her foreign roots is meaningless, Athawale added that if Indian-origin Kamala Harris can become the Vice-President of US, why can't Sonia Gandhi who is an Indian citizen become the Prime Minister. 

He also suggested that if Sonia Gandhi was unwilling to become the PM then she should have chosen NCP chief Sharad Pawar and not Manmohan Singh.

He further said that had Pawar become the country's PM in 2004, the Congress' position would have been strengthened and that party could have been saved from its present precarious condition.
