Scientists from the University of Manchester have moved a step closer in developing a skin-swab test that could help diagnose Parkinson's disease.
The technique works by analysing compounds found in sebum, which is one of the fluids used in the diagnosis of the condition.
Scientists used different mass spectrometry methods, to study samples of sebum taken from 500 people with and without Parkinson's.
Using the technique, they were able to distinguish people with Parkinson’s with 85 per cent accuracy.
Scientists added that the test will be an extremely simple, cost-effective and painless one.
