The shooting fraternity was left shocked once again as another shooter, Konica Layak died by suicide. This is the fourth death by suicide in the community.
As per local reports, Konica, who was training with the former Olympian and Arjuna Award winner Joydeep Karmakar in Kolkata, hanged herself in her hostel room. Konica was recently in the news when actor Sonu Sood gifted her a brand new rifle in March. A social worker had tagged him on social media about Konica's struggles as she was using an old rifle from either her coach or from friends for the state and as well as national tournaments.
A shocked Joydeep told the Tribune that Konica was missing her sessions for a few days due to one reason or the other. He though disclosed that the shooter failed to qualify for the Nationals this time after she was disqualified for target manipulation at a championship. However, Joydeep added that Konica got over the shock and disappointment and was training well after it.
