A scientist in Hong Kong has created a new method, based on artificial intelligence and machine learning, that could scan retinas of children to detect signs of early autism or the risk of the developmental disorder.
This kind of retinal eye scanning, could help in early detection and improve outcomes of treatment. The method developed by him uses a high resolution camera with a new software to analyse the eye's fibre layers and blood vessels.
In a trial, 70 children were tested for autism and the technology could diagnose the disorder in 95.7% cases. Benny Zee hopes to create a commercial product sometime this year, says a Reuters report.
