The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the closure of the case against two Italian Marines, Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre accused of killing two Indian fishermen off Kerala coast in 2012.
The order was passed after the Central government informed the Court that the amount of ₹10 crores agreed to be paid by the Republic of Italy as compensation for killing two Indian fishermen has been deposited.
The Court further directed that ₹10 crores should be transferred to the Kerala High Court registry out of which ₹4 crores each should be paid to the families of the two victims and ₹2 crore should go to the boat owner.
