Amping up his attacks on the govt, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that Iraq’s dictator Saddam Hussain and Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi used to win elections as well, adding that electoral democracy can be 'destroyed' if one can control the social media and institutions.

Rahul Gandhi made the comments during an online interaction with Professor Ashutosh Varshney of the Brown University in the US.

After two foreign organisations criticised India on freedom and democracy, Rahul Gandhi said the 'situation is much worse than they have imagined'. He also said these foreign institutions have their view, but India does not need a stamp from them.
