Prince Harry was on Wednesday forced to issue a statement in reference to naming his new-born daughter Lilibet, a nickname of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.
This after a Buckingham Palace source told the BBC that the Queen was not asked by the couple about the name and disputed reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had spoken to the Queen before the birth in reference to the name.
Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born in Santa Barbara, California, where the Sussexes are now based, on June 4.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said that the Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement – in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called.
The spokesman said during that conversation, Harry shared his hope of naming their daughter Lilibet and had the Queen not been supportive, they would not have used the name.
