Indian companies encountered the third highest number of malware attacks after the US and Japan, cybersecurity firm Acronis said in its annual report.

It further states that 1,168 malware detections were found per 1,000 clients in India per month. Ransomware continues to be the leading threat in India, the report said, with a shift in trend towards stealing proprietary--and sometimes embarrassing--data.

Acronis warns 2021 will bring aggressive cybercrime activity as criminals pivot their attacks from data encryption to data exfiltration.
