A record single-day spike of more than 83,000 cases has pushed India's coronavirus tally past the 38-lakh mark, the Union Health Ministry data this morning showed. This is the highest single-day jump in coronavirus cases reported by any country since the beginning of the pandemic. Over a 1,000 deaths linked to Covid-19 were reported in the last 24 hours taking the total number of fatalities to over 67,000. The sharp spike of 83,833 cases has come on a day when India tested a record 11.7 lakh samples. Total number of samples tested for Covid has gone past 4.5 crore, the ICMR said on Thursday. Covid caseload now includes more than 8 lakh active cases while over 29.7 lakh have recovered from the highly contagious infection. The recovery rate stands at 77 per cent.
