Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday morning performed 'aarti' at the Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad as the annual Rath Yatra started from the temple. Ahmedabad’s Jagannath Temple is all decked up ahead of Rath Yatra and heavy security has been deployed at the venue.

Shah is on a three-day visit to his home state Gujarat from July 11, to take part in a host of programmes, including the Rath Yatra. Union minister was also seen feeding an elephant at the temple premises earlier.

Rath Yatra celebrations at Puri's iconic Jagannath Temple were muted. Just like last year, the Rath yatra in Odisha this year will be devotee-less, keeping Covid guidelines in mind.

The administration has imposed curbs across the 3-km long Grand Road from Shree Jagannath Temple to Sri Gunducha Temple where all activities, except medical emergencies, are prohibited. People have been asked not to congregate in large numbers to witness the festival from the rooftops, hotels, and guest houses in the area.
