Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award to now be called Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award

In a huge move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday renamed the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award and has changed it to Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. 

PM Modi tweeted to say that he has been getting many requests from citizens across India to rename India's highest sporting honour after legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. And he has finally decided to change it in order to Respect the sentiments of the citizens.

Justifying his move, PM added that Major Dhyan Chand was among India’s foremost sportspersons who brought honour and pride for India and it was fitting that India’s highest sporting honour will be named after him.
