A drone footage, shot by Reuters, showed hundreds of bodies, separated by bamboo sticks and covered with saffron cloth, buried along the banks in UP’s Prayagraj.

After photos from the Sangam area of Prayagraj went viral on social media, the the Prayagraj municipal corporation deployed a team to remove bamboo sticks and shrouds from buried bodies and bury the corpses.

The civic body workers have covered bodies with sand again at cremation ghats. Officials said arrangement of timber has now been made at cremation sites to prevent burial along the banks of Ganga.

CM Adityanath, meanwhile, asked officials for continued patrolling around all the rivers to ensure that the bodies were not disposed of in water.
