Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been arrested by the police in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur and a case has been registered against her for attempting to go to Lakhimpur Kheri.

Priyanka was detained when she was on her way to meet the families of farmers who were killed in Sunday's violence.

According to the FIR, she has been booked for violating Section 144.

Farmers have alleged that Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son, Ashish Mishra had run his car over the protesters who were agitating against the farm laws.

Earlier, Priyanka had tweeted a viral video of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and claimed that she was detained "without an order or FIR" while those responsible for stoking the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri were roaming scot-free.

She further said as soon as she is released, she will proceed to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the bereaved families and added that she is exploring legal options

Talking about PM's visit to Lucknow for an event linked to the Independence Day anniversary, the Congress leader questioned what moral authority does Modi have to celebrate and not sack the allegedly guilty minister and arrest his son. She went on to ask the PM if he will visit Lakhimpur Kheri
