The Health Ministry has underlined massive under-utilisation of Covid-19 vaccine doses by private hospitals. In a press release issued on June 4, the ministry said that out of the 1.29 crore vaccine doses procured by private hospitals across India in May, only 22 lakh doses or 17% doses were used.
The statement also said that a total of 7.4 crore doses were made available across the country in May, of which 1.85 crore doses were earmarked for private hospitals.
Experts have said that high price of vaccines at private hospitals and vaccine hesitancy could be the reason for under-utilisation.
