Princes William and Harry have hit out at the BBC and its journalist Martin Bashir over "the deceitful way" Bashir obtained an explosive TV interview with their mother Princess Diana in 1995. Diana had detailed her troubled marriage to Prince Charles in the interview.
BBC on Thursday issued an apology after a probe found that the organisation had cover-up Bashir's tactics in getting the interview.
William said the interview had made "a major contribution" to the demise of his parents' relationship, while the BBC's oversight failures had "contributed significantly to her fear, paranoia and isolation" in her final years.
In a separate statement, Harry said the report was "the first step towards justice and truth" but that the deceptive practices exposed were still widespread today -- and had played a part in his mother's death.
Diana and Charles formally divorced in 1996. She died at the age of 36 in a car crash while being chased by paparazzis in Paris the following year.
