Mohamad Salah converted from the spot to deny Aston Villa a win on Saturday in the English Premier League, as Steven Gerrard's return to Anfield ended in a big disappointment.

Gerrard's Aston Villa made various attempts to score but was unable to get the final touch. Liverpool too missed many chances on either side of the half-time or the final scoreline would have been different.

Salah, finally, broke the deadlock in the 67th minute through a penalty, giving his team a 1-0 lead.

Villa was on a verge of equalising in the dying minutes of the game but the Liverpool goalkeeper made some excellent saves.

After the win, Liverpool remained at the second position on the Premier League points table behind Manchester City by one point while ahead of Chelsea with a single point margin.
