Vaccine giant Serum Institute of India has reduced the prices of Covishield vaccine for states by 25% from ₹400 to ₹300 per dose on Wednesday.

Taking to Twitter, Adar Poonawalla said the price has been reduced as a philanthropic gesture and will be effective immediately.

He said the price cut will save thousands of crores for the states and will enable more vaccinations and save countless lives.

The development came days after the Covishield pricing created controversy with SII being accused of keeping different price slabs within India and globally

All eyes now on Bharat Biotech as in comparison Covaxin will cost states double of Covishield  at Rs 600/dose
