PM Modi, Kovind, Mamata condole veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee

PM Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid tribute to Soumitra Chatterjee who died in Kolkata on November 15.

PM wrote Soumitra Chatterjee's death is a colossal loss to the world of cinema, cultural life of West Bengal and India. PM said through his works, Chatterjee came to embody Bengali sensibilities, emotions and ethos.

President of India Ram Nath Kovind said with the passing of Soumitra Chatterjee, Indian cinema has lost one of its legends.

In a series of emotional tweets, Mamata Banerjee wrote 'Feluda is no more, 'Apu' said goodbye'. Stating that International, Indian and Bengali cinema has lost a giant, the West Bengal CM wrote 'the film world in Bengal has been orphaned'.

Deeply pained to learn about the demise of legendary Soumitra Chatterjee, Amit Shah wrote 'Indian silver screen has lost a gem. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and countless followers'.
