Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated India’s first driver-less train on Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also attended the inauguration programme. The PM also launched the fully operational National Common Mobility Card on the Airport Express Line, via video conferencing.
The first driver-less train will run on the Janakpuri West and Botanical Garden route. It will be extended to the Pink Line by mid-2021. With the launch, Delhi Metro has entered the elite league of 7% of the world’s Metro networks, which can operate without drivers. The initial launch was set for May 2020, but this had to be postponed because of the Covid-19 lockdown.
