Two explosions rocked the Afghan capital city Kabul on Thursday.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed two blasts occurred outside the Kabul airport- one near the Abbey Gate and the other close to Baron Hotel, where US citizens were gathering to be evacuated.

US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the explosion at Kabul airport, Reuters quoted an unnamed White House official as saying.

Kirby tweeted to inform that the explosions were a result of a 'complex attack that resulted in a number of US & civilian casualties'.

Meanwhile, a Taliban official told Al Jazeera that at least 11 were dead in the blast, including foreigners and children. The Taliban further said its gaurds were wounded in the explosion.

The Taliban have issued a statement over the twin blasts that took place outside the Kabul airport. Asserting that the Taliban will not allow terrorists to use Afghanistan as a base for their operations, the group's spokesperson said IS group is suspected to be behind the attack, adding that they had warned the US of the same.
