Two passenger trains collided in Pakistan’s southern Sindh Province on Monday, killing at least 50 people and injuring 70.
The Millat Express derailed and the Sir Syed Express train hit it soon afterward, said Usman Abdullah, a police officer in Ghotki district in Sindh province, where the collision occurred
According to officials, over 1,000 passengers were on board the two trains.
Officials said they are facing difficulty in rescuing the people trapped inside the overturned bogies and fear that the number of fatalities in the accident could rise.
The army and paramilitary forces have been called in for relief and rescue operations. An investigation has been launched into the accident.
