Russian Deputy Chief of Mission in Delhi, Roman Babushkin, on Tuesday said Moscow's decision to not supply defence and arms to Pakistan is based on the request and sensitivities of the Indian side.
However, there is enough evidence of warm ties between Russia and Pakistan adopted as a countermeasure to warming ties between India and the US. The two countries carried out their first-ever joint military drills in 2016 despite Indian requests to postpone it due to the Uri attack. Russia has also supplied Mi-35M assault helicopters to Pakistan as part of the lifting of its embargo on arms sales to the country in 2014.
The cooperation between the US and India in a series of important defence agreements have resulted in Moscow and Islamabad going forward with more weapons trade.
Pakistan is eager to embrace Moscow given the military assistance from US is frozen under Trump administration. Russians, on the other hand are pursuing the development of relations with Pakistan to limit the US influence in Asia.
