After a recent controversy where OnePlus was caught throttling the performance of its flagship phones with some popular apps, the company has now said it will include an option to disable the optimisation in OxygenOS 12.

An investigation by tech website AnandTech revealed that the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro reduce performance with some of the most popular apps at the kernel level, which the user cannot easily disable.

In a statement, OnePlus had said that the optimisations were meant to reduce power consumption, and that the throttling was not noticeable by the user.

In the upcoming OxygenOS 12, based on Android 12, users will be able to turn this optimisation on and off with a toggle in the device settings.
