Donna Strickland is only the third woman to win the Nobel prize in physics after Marie Curie in 1903 and Maria Goeppert-Mayer in 1963. She shares the prize with Arthur Ashkin and Gerard Mourou for creating the shortest and most intense laser pulses in history. They also pioneered a technique called Chirped Pulse Amplification (CPA), used in cancer treatment and laser eye surgeries.
