Hours before the start of 1st ODI in Rawalpindi on September 17, New Zealand called off its tour of Pakistan citing security concerns. Arrangements are being made for the team's departure.
New Zealand cricket board in a statement said that following an escalation in the New Zealand Government threat levels for Pakistan, and advice from NZC security advisors on the ground, it was simply not possible to continue with the tour. The board however didn't comment on the details of the security threat nor the updated arrangements for the departing squad.
The Pakistan Cricket Board stated that the Government of Pakistan made fool proof security arrangements for all visiting teams. The Blackcaps were to play 3 ODIs in Rawalpindi before travelling to Lahore for a 5-match T20 series.
