Nepal and Bhutan have been lashed by heavy rains in the last three days with the onset of the annual monsoon season. In Nepal, flash floods wreaked havoc in Sindhupalchok and the Melamchi town is submerged in a thick layer of mud & water. As per officials, about 200 houses in the town have been partially or completely damaged. Seven people are reportedly dead and several others are missing.

People in Melamchi moved to higher grounds with their belongings while army helicopters were rescuing those trapped in houses. Authorities urged people living along the Narayani River, which flows into India as Gandak, to remain alert as the river was found to be flowing above the danger mark.
