A team of the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Sunday met the family members of a woman who died after being raped and brutally tortured in the Sakinaka area of Mumbai.
A 30-year-old woman was raped and assaulted with an iron rod in Sakinaka on Friday. She died while undergoing treatment at a hospital early on Saturday.
According to a police official, four-five members of the women's commission first went to the victim's house and later went to the spot where the crime took place inside a parked tempo. The panel members went to the Sakinaka police station as well to seek details of the case. The team also went to the city-based Rajawadi Hospital where the woman died after a nearly 36-hour battle for life, and collected details pertaining to the case.

Earlier, on Sunday the NCW has criticised Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale for saying that the 'police can't be everywhere' when questioned about a rape case. Chandramukhi Devi, an NCW member said that the statement was unfortunate and that the police can't run away from its responsibilities.
