Mukesh Ambani's Reliance amongst top 10 plastic pollutants globally

Twenty companies produce 55% of world’s plastic waste, that's the finding by The Plastic Waste Makers Index. The study names the companies that are at the forefront of the plastic supply chain and manufacture polymers, known as the building block of plastics. Here are the top 3 pollutants and how much they add to the global plastic waste.

  • ExxonMobil (U.S)  - 5.9 million metric tons
  • Dow (U.S)- 5.6 million metric tons
  • Sinopec (China)- 5.3 million metric tons

Mukesh Ambani backed Reliance Industries is in the top 10 pollutants at Rank #8 adding 3.9 million metric tons to the global plastic waste. State backed GAIL(#34), IOC(#43)and ONGC(#46) also find themselves in the top plastic pollutants.

The research was conducted by the London School of Economics, the Stockholm Environment Institute amongst others and was published by Minderoo Foundation, one of Asia’s largest philanthropies.
