Milkha Singh, one of independent India's biggest sporting icons who died of Covid-19 complications, was cremated in Chandigarh on Saturday evening with full state honours. Sports minister Kiren Rijiju were among many who were present at the crematorium to pay their last respect to the legendary sprinter.
Milkha Singh, who died a the age of 91, was cremated with a picture of his wife in his hands, who too lost her battle to Covid-19 just 4 days before Singh passed away.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday also announced that the state will observe one day of State mourning as a mark of respect to the departed legend.
