Hundereds of prisoners were released from Myanmar's most notorious jail on Monday night after the announcement of an amnesty by the country's military rulers.
Crowds of people could be seen thronging outside the Insein Prison in Yangon as the prisoners who participated in anti-coup protests started coming out.
The inmates that included journalists, celebrities and internet influencers could be seen waving from windows of buses as they pulled out from the gates of the prison.
As per AP report, important political prisoners such as the country's ousted leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, continues to remain in detention.
The release is being seen as a consequence of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) taking the rare step of excluding Myanmar's junta chief from its summit.
Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military coup earlier this year, which ended a decade of tentative democracy and economic reform.
