Maruti Suzuki India has reported a 30.8 per cent year-on-year growth in sales for September 2020. The automaker’s total sales for the month stood at 160,442 units last month, as compared to 122,640 vehicles that were sold in September 2019. The sales figures do look encouraging for India’s largest carmaker as the nation recovers from the pandemic, but the auto industry was already undergoing a major slowdown during September last year, which has prompted strong growth figure. Entry-level models like the Alto and S-Presso* saw a nearly 36 per cent hike in sales, while sales for compact models like the Wagon R, Swift and Dzire* grew by 47 per cent. The UV segment with the Vitara Brezza, XL6 and the Ertiga* witnessed an increase of 10.1 per cent. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz* was the only model to witness a decline in sales by 10 per cent. With respect to month-on-month growth, Maruti Suzuki registered a 28 per cent hike in sales with 124,624 units sold in August 2020.
