Lancer Capital, which owns a National Football League team Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has officially acquired a franchise in the UAE T20 league. Interestingly, Lancer Capital's chairman, Avie Glazer, has also been the co-chairman of Manchester United since 2005.

The general secretary of the Emirates Cricket Board said their partnership with Lancer Capital will enable them to combine fans of the two widely followed sports – football and cricket.

The UAE T20 League is a franchise-based T20 tournament with six teams. It will have 34 matches and will be held annually.
