Manchester Police on Thursday said that City left-back Benjamin Mendy was charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The club has suspended Mendy awaiting investigation. The police also confirmed that the charges of rape and assault involved an underage girl as the investigation is underway.

Mendy joined Manchester City from Monaco in 2017 and has won the Premier League 3 times and the English League Cup 2 times. He played against Tottenham on the first weekend of the Premier League season but did not face Norwich on Saturday.
