Maharashtra records 23,179 new cases, highest single-day surge in 2021

With 23,179 new cases, Maharashtra’s Covid-19 tally rose to 23,70,507 on Wednesday. This is the highest single day surge in 2021 and the sixth highest since the pandemic began last year.

The state recorded 84 deaths in the last 24 hours and the total fatality count is at 53,080. There are 1,52,760 active cases and the recovery count is at 21,63,391.

Over 33 lakh people have been vaccinated so far.

The Centre has cautioned the state to adopt corrective measures to curb the spread of the infection as fears of a second wave of the pandemic linger.
