In a unique initiative, the Ludhiana's Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has established a blood bank for dogs in need.
A total of 25 states had applied for the approval of a blood bank for dogs, however, only two received the nod - one in Ludhiana and the other in Chennai, Dr. Shukriti Sharma from GADVASU said.
At the facility, the donated blood is separated into three parts, Red Blood Cells, platelets and plasma, depending on the need.
Over the past few years, the institute has conducted 125 blood transfusions in dogs up until now.
