Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday announced a statewide lockdown from May 8-16 to fight a massive surge in Covid-19 cases in the last few weeks.
The state government’s decision comes a day after the state reported the highest single-day spike of 41,953 new COVID-19 cases.
Addressing the media, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said said there are 3,75,658 active cases in the state.
The chief minister had also said that medical students will be brought in to strengthen the ward level committees and rapid response teams in the state.
