Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 1 highlights: There are no medal matches on Day 1 of the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games 2022, but quite a few key contests. 14-year-old squash sensation Anahat Singh made a superb start of her CWG campaign as she won Round of 64 match, 3-0.
Earlier, Pugilist Shiva Thapa stormed into the next round after he defeated Pakistan's Suleman Baloch. While India's women's team shed the early advantage as they lost their opener by 3 wickets against Australia. India's Badminton contingent will also start their campaign on Day 1 of Birmingham 2022 when they play against arch-rivals Pakistan in the mixed events.
Meanwhile, Indian women's hockey team made easy work against Ghana in Pool A, winning the match 5-0.
India's women's table tennis side, led by Manika Batra, defeated South Africa and Fiji with an identical scorelines of 3-0.

After a comprehensive 3-0 win over Singapore, the Indian TT men's team qualified for the quarterfinals. G Sathiyan defeats Zhe Yu Clarence Chew in straight games, winning 11-7 11-5 11-8, in Match 3 after Sharath Kamal came from behind to win Match 2.

Lack of stem in Indian line-up came to haunt the Women In Blue again. Gardener smashed the a brilliant boundary to bring up her fifty. Alana King hit a boundary towards deep mid-wicket for FOUR. Thus winning the match for the Aussies.

Ace Indian boxer Shiva Thapa began his CWG 2022 campaign on a rousing note by defeating Pakistan's Suleman Baloch in the first round of the 63.5kg category.
28-year-old Thapa hardly broke a sweat as he registered a comprehensive 5-0 win over Baloch to move to the pre-quarterfinals of the light welterweight category.
Thapa, five-time Asian Championship medallist, was technically far superior to Baloch and landed a flurry of sharp punches on his opponent.
The former world championship bronze medallist also defended well as he danced around the ring with ease. At one point, Baloch came forward to punch the Indian but Thapa effortlessly moved out of the way as the Pakistan boxer fell on the canvas.

Renuka Singh Thakur was on fire as he took all four Australian wickets. The Aussies, on the other hand, kept their momentum going despite losing wickets in the pack.
Renuka finished her spell with 4 wickets. After Renuka finished her spell, Deepti Sharma got the fifth Australian wicket. Rachael Haynes went back to the pavilion at the score of 9 runs.

In the Men's Team Sprint event in Cycling, India narrowly missed out on bronze medal contention by 0.206 seconds, finishing 5th. In the 4000m team pursuit, the Indian men's team though finished last in the qualification event. The Women's team too failed to qualify for the medal races after finishing seventh in Team Sprint.
After Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Harmeet Desai defeated Kevin Farley and Tyrese Knight of Barbados in Match 1, Sharath Kamal overcame Ramon Maxwell challenge in the second match.
Meanwhile Sathiyan wins his singles game shortly, thus giving India a 3-0 win against Barbados in Men's Team event.

India's Renuka Singh Thakur was breathing fire as she got Australia's top three batters in her first couple of overs. Alyssa Healy, Captain Meg Lanning and the dangerous Beth Mooney all perished in quick succession one after the other.
In the Men's Team Sprint event, India narrowly miss out on Bronze medal contention by 0.206 seconds, behind Malaysia in fourth.
