Lightning strike kills selfie takers in Jaipur, 37 dead in UP

Heavy lightning killed at least 37 people in Uttar Pradesh as rains lashed parts of the state on Sunday. 14 people were killed in Prayagraj alone in separate incidents, after being struck by lightning. Prayagraj has seen very heavy rainfall.

Lightning also wreaked havoc In Rajasthan where at least 19 people, including seven children, were killed in lightning strikes on Sunday. Among the deceased children, four were from Kota district, and another three from Badi in the Dholpur district.

According to reports, 11 youth were killed while taking selfies when lightning struck them on a hill near the Amer Fort in Jaipur. The Rajasthan govt has announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹5 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs each from PM National Relief Fund to the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to lightning.
