Las Vegas welcomes the largest video screen on Earth; know all about the futuristic MSG sphere

Famous for casinos, shopping, fine dining and nightlife, popular tourist location Las Vegas recently welcomed another spot for visitors, the MSG sphere. You must have spotted it by now on social media platforms including Instagram and TikTok.

Location

Located in Paradise, Nevada, the massive dome, billed as the world’s largest video screen is a futuristic entertainment venue that lit up for the first time on July 4th, (Independence Day of the United States) this year.

The venue is set to host a wide range of entertainment events, including concerts, theatrical performances, sports events and other live shows. 

Capacity

The spherical structure is 115 metres tall and 157 metres wide and will officially open on September 29, with a performance by the Irish rock band U2. The cheapest ticket begins at $267.88 on Sphere’s website. It has a seating capacity of 18,600 but can accommodate 20,000 standing. 

The interior of the sphere has a unique 16K resolution wraparound LED screen that measures 15,000 square metres, which means those inside will enjoy a view of the screen from every angle. The Sphere also has 164,000 speakers that will offer everyone the same level of sound quality.

The venue will feature haptic seats and 4D machines for wind, temperature and scent effects. The huge sphere can even change its shape to become a huge pumpkin for Halloween or a snow globe for Christmas.

The Design

The Sphere was designed by the global architecture firm Populous. Dubai's Coca-Cola Arena, Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi and Emirates Stadium and Etihad Stadium in the UK has been designed by them. 

The venue's unique design and immersive capabilities will enable artists and performers to create innovative and unforgettable experiences for the audience. As per the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the project was built for $2.3 billion.
