We all know that sitting for long hours and not moving around at your workplace can have many negative effects on your health, but how much? A recent study published by the journal JAMA Network Open and conducted in Taiwan with 4,81,688 participants over approximately 13 years revealed that sitting on an office chair for long hours can kill you!

Sitting on an office chair for long hours is detrimental

The research revealed shocking details about those who predominantly stayed glued to their workstations. It revealed that those who sat for long faced a 34 percent higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease (CVD), and a 16 percent increased likelihood of death from all causes.

With too much sitting comes obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and unhealthy cholesterol levels.

What does the expert say?

Dr Sanjay Kumar spoke to India Today and revealed the ill effects of sitting on an office chair for a long. He revealed that sedentary behaviour often leads to weight gain and obesity, both of which are significant risk factors for CAD.

The doctor also revealed that lack of physical activity can lead to higher levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, commonly known as "bad" cholesterol.

Women are more prone to getting complications than men.

Make sure to walk around and take breaks between work. Also, maintain a healthy diet and have plenty of water.
