A recent study by the Pew Research Center has stated that almost half of the population of India supports same-sex marriage.
The study found that approximately 53 per cent said they either ‘somewhat favour’ or ‘strongly favour’ same-sex marriage.
According to Gay Times, support was higher among those who selected ‘strongly favour’ compared to those who chose ‘somewhat support’ at a rate of 28 per cent to 25 per cent, respectively.
For the unversed, same-sex marriage is still not legal in India but same-sex couples have rights and entitlements as live-in couples (analogous to cohabitation) as per the Supreme Court of India’s decision provided in August 2022.
