Excess intake of sodium is becoming one of the major causes of deaths and life risking diseases across the globe, according to a recent report released by World Health Organization (WHO).

According to WHO, a person should consume only 5 grams of salt in a day, whereas people consume twice as much of it daily. Sodium is essential for our body but if consumed in excess, can cause heart attack, stroke and premature death. Salt is the major source of sodium and people tend to add extra salt in their food.

The WHO report also states that if the right policy is implemented in all the countries on low consumption of sodium right away, then by 2030 lives of 7 million people can be saved globally.
